Shri Guru Ravidass Temple
Shri Guru Ravidas, born around 1450 AD in the Varanasi region of present-day Uttar Pradesh, India, was a revered saint, poet, and spiritual luminary. Despite being born into a family of cobblers and belonging to a lower caste, Guru Ravidas exhibited spiritual inclinations from an early age. Under the guidance of Sant Kabir, another prominent figure in the Bhakti movement, Ravidas delved into the realms of devotion and sought a deeper understanding of the divine. His teachings, compiled in the Guru Granth Sahib, emphasize the universality of spiritual pursuit, rejecting caste-based discrimination and promoting equality. Beyond his role as a spiritual leader, Guru Ravidas actively worked as a social reformer, challenging prevailing social injustices and advocating for the upliftment of the oppressed. His literary contributions, comprising devotional poetry and hymns, continue to inspire followers and seekers on the path of love and devotion. Guru Ravidas’s legacy extends to community development, with the establishment of a dharamshala in Varanasi fostering a sense of unity among his followers. Celebrated annually on Guru Ravidas Jayanti, his teachings resonate as a timeless beacon of spirituality, social justice, and inclusivity.
